Civil Society International

The site offers a list of links to nongovernmental organizations with job openings all over the world, though they specialize in jobs in Central and Eastern Europe. The Fund for Public Interest Research

Rainforest Action Network: San Francisco

Job openings, intern and volunteer opportunities are accessed by linking to the headings titled, 'About RAN' and 'What You Can Do' which leads to the link 'Work At Ran'. Updated job openings are provided at this site. An unpaid internship is also available at RAN headquarters in SF. The internship requires 12 hours a week and compensates transportation costs. The Rainforest Action Network is geared at protecting the earth's rainforests and it's inhabitants. The network was born after a sunccessful campign to boycott Burger King in 1985. Ever since, RAN has worked to bridge activists in indigenous countries with scoially responsible citizens here. In addition, RAN is concerned with free trade and consumer conscience in America.

This link povides current job postings and internship opportunities. RI was founded in 1979 in response to the outpour of Cambodian and Vietnamese refugees. RI is a DC based advocacy organization attempting to represent the underrepresented, the refugee. The organization also provides early warning in cases of mass exodus.

Sierra Club

This site offers information on an assortment of opportunities, ranging from magazine interns to chapter director. On the first page of this site, listed under the heading 'about Sierra Club' are 'jobs at Sierra Club'. This link lists over 25 jobs in diverse fields and areas around the country. Many of the positions available are located in DC and SF, but Sierra's regional chapters also follow through with their own recruitment. Born and inspired in 1892 by John Muir, the Sierra Club is one of the countries largest conservation organizations. They are currently grappling with fair trade, land and ocean conservation and restoration and efforts to educate the masses. This link also provides information about internships available in DC and SF which are remunerated with a $200/wk allowance.

SIPAZ

SIPAZ, The International Service for Peace, consists of a coalition of organizations from Latin America, North America and Europe. SIPAZ was initiated by various Mexican human rights groups and church organizations to support the peace process in Chiapas. The organization has an active commitment to nonviolence. Sometimes SIPAZ posts their job openings on the web site, however, the easiest method of contacting them is through the address, telephone number, or e-mail address listed below. International Affairs majors, especially those with a focus in Latin America, may find SIPAZ helpful in their career search, since SIPAZ frequently needs translators and other internationally focused people.

USPIRG & State PIRGs

US and state PIRG's continuously offer paid opportunities with a social conscience. This link is amazingly comprehensive, mostly because the PIRG job opportunities are too. Jobs and internships for students, recent grads and those with advanced degrees are readily available. From campus organizer to Campaign For A Green Future are provided at this site. The PIRG's primarily focus on natural resource protection, the struggle for a healthy environment, consumer rights and government accountability.

Witness for Peace

This organization works mainly in Nicaragua, Guatamala, and other target countries for Reagan's "low intensity warfare." Witness for Peace organizes itself around issues of World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) structural adjustment programs, labor rights, corporate accountability, debt relief, US government relations with Latin American militaries, declassification of human rights and related documents, and more. They work closely with a number of other organizations and coalitions, including Jubilee 2000, the Quixote Center and the Latin American Working Group. They sponsor small delegations that go to Central America, Haiti, Chiapas, and Cuba to "see the human face of US policy," and, for those interested in designing educational programs, journalism, and travel, Witness offers a variety of volunteer opportunities.

World Wildlife Federation: International Focus

The WWF is the world's largest conservation organization aimed at providing a living planet to future generations.
