Conflict Resolution Month

State of Colorado General Assembly is considering Joint Resolution recognizing October 2009 as Conflict Resolution Month

Thank you to the many people who helped make last year's the Conflict Resolution Day and "Undebate" a success!

CU Peace Circles

Project Peace was established a group of freshman in the President's Leadership. It is a university affiliated student group that is dedicated to introducing the powerful practice of Peace Circles to CU and build a lasting legacy. Peace Circles provides a unique opportunity for students from diverse backgrounds to gather together and share their stories. By learning about those around them, students are able to create a culture of peace and tolerance.

More information is available in the Peace CIrcle Program Announcement.

The Program in Peace and Conflict Studies (PACS) serves students interested in the cross-disciplinary study of peace development and conflict management. PACS has a four-decade history at the University, preparing hundreds of students, many of whom are now conflict professionals in a growing field.

The PACS Certificate is awarded by the College of Arts and Sciences. It is available to any CU-Boulder student who completes the two PACS courses and 18 additional hours of approved coursework relevant to such topical areas as war avoidance, conflict resolution, nonviolence, human rights, humanitarian intervention, social justice and ecological security.

To apply for the certificate program, students should visit the requirements and forms pages, then submit an initial sign up form to PACS Director Stanley Deetz in Hellems 87.

PACS students participate in related programs on campus and beyond through study abroad and internships. Upon graduation, their career paths may lead them to graduate study and a growing number of organizations working to moderate conflict and build peace and justice at all levels of national and global society.

PACS relies on support from outside the University for its supplementary programs such as internships and scholarships. Those wishing to further the PACS mission, may do so by giving tax-deductible gifts to the Colorado Peace Studies Endowment.

It is clear that the way to heal society of its violence . . . and lack of love is to replace the pyramid of domination with the circle of equality and respect.
